Revell 1:24 Mercedes 190 SL Roadster

Ive started this while i wait for my scribing template to arrive to allow me to continue my Phantom f4 build.

I got this from Modelzone reduced from £15.99 to £5.99. Its a re-issue of a 1960's kit using the original mould (which you can see in places).

Forgot to get a sprue shot so here are the first few componants together and primed.

As you can see all the kit is red bar 1 chrome sprue.

The body was not a one piece shell and it had to be built from the separate pieces, bit of a pain but different i guess.

The bonnet, boot and roof have all been primed and given a first coat of my chosen colour of vallejo air light sea blue.

The body has had a coat of white primer and some filler which has then been sanded back ad i gave the underneath a coat of the light blue.

Little bit more progress today a bit more filling primer and alot of sanding ive got the body as good as i can get it but its far from perfect. Got a couple of coats of the blue on then about 3 coats of klear. Seats have been painted sandy brown and ive left it all as ive had enough today lol.

Well its finished but its far from perfect as its an awful quality kit, its age really does show. I nearly gave up on it a couple of times today but just got on with it.

Revell 1:350 Type VII Uboat

Well after completing my Bismark i thought this would make a good companion on its shelf.

To be fair its a nice little kit, it took me all off 45 mins to complete gluing it together and i now have eye strain

Ill say one thing how small is this thing

Right after a bit of help on the scale models forum, this uboat will be U556 which had a few connections with the bismarck so its fitting that i do this version, some info can be found here http://uboat.net/boats/u556.htm.

After some research i have decide on this paint scheme

Ive sprayed the bottom of the hull Dark sea grey and the top pale grey blue and made a start to the camo pattern, i will wait for it to dry as you can see ive lost a little painit to the masking tape then will complete the rest of it later.

I think ive got a pretty good match with the colours, any comments good or bad are welcome.

One thing about that uboat site is i started a search for the ship my grandad was on in WW2 it was a merchant navy ship but i dont know the ship name and my grandads name brings up nothing. All i know is that my grandad was 18 years old and on look out for uboats in the crows nest (i think thats right anyway) and he fell alseep on the job and yep the ship was torpedoed and sunk, my grandad and 9 others incuding an officer were on an open raft for 2 weeks and prusumed dead, the officer even had to draw his gun on my grandad to stop him drinking sea water i then belive they were picked up by another ship. I recently lost my dad and i got my grandads medals just a navy star and sevice medal (they were the one thing i wanted) but i know there was a newspaper arcticle with all the details about the incident which my nan had hanging on her hallway wall. I know my dad had a copy of this article but at this moment in time its in teneriffe. Ive just emailed one of my aunties to see if she knows the name of the ship, so fingers crossed.

Finished
Ok its done, lol the quickest model ive done so far and i have to say i did enjoy it, although my eyes are killing me now.

I took a few pics of the sub and a couple of it next to the bismarck and where they both will sit on display.

I got a few different light angles

Tamiya 1/350th Bismarck

Felt like a change from armour so thought i would try something ive never done before. Gonna build this alongside my 1/32 tornado so i have two totally different models to keep me going

The first ship model for me so though i would start off with a lengendary WW2 battleship.

I was expecting alot more in the box for some reason (there are only 8 ish sprues iin the box) but what is in there is good quality from a kit i believe was first made in the 1970's. The kit can even be made motorised if thats soomething you wish to do.

I started off with a good read of the typical well laid out tamiya instrustions and set to work.

I primed the deck and when it was dry i then sprayed a couple of coats of vallejo model air wood.

Next step priming the deck guns, the gun barrels were sprayed in vallejo german grey and the gun housing in dark sea grey
The guns were then glued into their movable psoditions on the deck, i should have pianted the sea grey above the deck around the guns before i glued them in place but i can still get to them so it should cause much trouble.

Made some progress over the last week, all the superstructure (is that right on a ship?) is complete with just the boats and planes to spray, then on to the front section of the deck then the hull.

26/12//10
Well some more progress on the mighty ship launches and lifeboats are pinted up, still got the aircraft to piant and attach and then the rear section of the deck needs its small bits and bobs painting in meduim sea grey (vallejo) then i have loads of snagging jobs to do as well as the dreaded rigging.

Got the hull done today bar the props and a matt coat, decided to not have the "waves" fornt and rear (for now anyway) very happy with the way the hull came out as it was a pig to do manly beause of all the masking.

The hull without the camo scheme.

And with the camo, you can see the time difference (by the photo time stamp) and i only had a 45 min break in between.

Nearly finished anyway.......

Emhar 1/24 Bedford OSBT 5-ton Tipper Truck

I saw this in my local Modelzone and just had to get one, ivve put my bismark build on hold for now as i was itching to build this great looking model.

Im going for the grey over black and red colours in the British road services livery.

First impressions are this is a well made kit and it all fits together superbly i have had no fit issues at all, infact alot of this model could be held together without glue the fit is that good.

I forgot to get a piic of the sprues  as i was that eager to get started on it but there are plenty of sprue piic on this thread here http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/archive/emhar-bedford-o-series-tipper__o_t__t_14802.html

Box front

Built and primered chassis

Black chassis and red road wheels

Numerous primered parts including the tipper body and cab
After a coat of Klear
Road wheels and tipper frame attached
And a couple of shots test fitting the cab radiator and bonnet.

Interior and decals next......

19/12/10

Well she is all done and wat a nice kit is was to put together one of the best ive done i think. Everything went together perfectly bar the offside engine cover. I gotta get the coal truck version next.
